Sting’s quest to qualify for a national championship berth
next month fell short at the ASA Regional Championships
as they dropped two closely fought contests in the double
elimination tournament. Sting struck first in the third inning
for two runs on a double by shortstop Jordan Baker and singles by
first baseman Veronica Timpane and third baseman Molly Cohen.
Pitcher Cory Labov held the Venom scoreless through three
innings mixing her pitches well. She was also assisted by a
brilliant defensive play at home plate from catcher Brooke
Tannahill tagging out a runner charging in from third. But
defensive breakdowns allowed the Venom to push six runs
across in the fourth. A single by Baker and a line
drive triple off the bat of right fielder Mia Jauregui
gave the Sting a third run in the fifth, but the rally fell
short of gaining the needed runs.

The Sting again led early thanks to the hot hitting duo
of Cohen and Baker who combined for two more runs. Defensive
highlights included a lightning quick pick-up and throw
from right fielder Reid Schnider to first baseman Jauregui
to make an out on the surprised runner attempting to leg
out a single. Error-less play was turned in throughout the
tournament by Sting outfielders Boothe Carlson, Shannon
Riggio-Kerley, and Reyna Fa-Kaji. Pitcher Sasha Kramer
also contributed with scoreless relief in the fifth inning.
