Albany-Berkeley Sting 10U Gold
The Albany Berkeley Sting 10U Gold team displayed winning spirit
despite consecutive losses during the tournament. On Friday
against the Vallejo Hurricanes, pitcher Nora Killian struck out two and made good stops, tossing to catcher Sophia Emmons-Bell for a force at home. On offense, Meg McCabe laid down a beautiful bunt and Grace Duncan slammed the ball up the middle. On Saturday the team endured sweltering temperatures against the San Jose Quicksilver. Pitcher Lena Mayer became more accurate as the game went on, striking out three. In the first, center fielder McCabe caught a popup. In left field, Erin Hoynes stayed with the ball, throwing to Grace Duncan for a perfect play at second, and Lee Labov chased down a long hit to right field and stopped the runner’s advance. Later the heat lifted when the Stingers faced the Novato Breeze. Samantha Chiang pitched accurately, walking very few. Maggie Gallagher hustled for the ball in center field, and Cassidy Villenueve shone at short stop, catching two popups and making a double play at second, assisted by Duncan. On Sunday, Sting Gold runners reached base safely in all three innings against the Concord Glory. Josephine Hass and the Sting outfield were tested by the Concord hitters, but they made the plays back to the pitcher. Catcher McCabe was aggressive, letting few balls past and charging the mound to prevent steals. At bat, Stingers made contact against fast pitches, with Emmons-Bell hitting a hard line drive to right.
