Sting 12DA vs Pleasanton Phantom Rose
3 - 11
The first game of the day began early with the fog and wind blowing across the field. Annie Smith got off a strong hit for an RBI for a score in the first inning.
Phantom struck back and despite the strong pitching of Sasha Kramer, Sting was unable to stop the strong hitting and base running of the Phantoms who scored 5 runs in the second inning.
In the third inning, Sting looked alive with two more runs as the Phantom pitcher started to tire. The bottom of the third saw a phenomenal double play by Molly Cohen who caught a ball that was barely off the ground and then threw it to second to make a double play.
During the break between games, tragedy struck Sting 12DA when teammate Roison Shannon, playing on a slide in the park, sprained her ankle and was out of play for the rest of the tournament. But, unwilling to leave her team, she stayed and cheered her teammates on through the rest of the day!
Petaluma Steel Breeze vs Sting 12 DA Score: 11-1
In the second game of the day, Sting 12DA was challenged again by a very strong team. The first inning at bat for Sting was tough as they faced a hard and fast pitcher.
The Steel Breeze came up to bat with Boothe Carlson as pitcher for Sting 12DA. They scored 4 runs, but Boothe made some fine plays, especially the final out of the inning when a Steel Breeze player attempted to steal second base but was stopped by Boothe’s quick throw to second to end the inning.
The top of the second inning saw Sasha Kramer walk to first base followed by a beautiful bunt by Veronica Timpane. Veronica was safe at first and Sasha made it all the way home as the Steel Breeze stumbled.
Steel Breeze took control in the final inning of the game and they became unstoppable at bat ending the game with a healthy lead.
Sting 12DA vs Vallejo Hurricanes Score: 10 - 3
This was the game where it all came together for Sting 12DA. All their hard work paid off. The Hurricanes were up first in the inning, and Sasha Kramer pitched a 1,2,3 out.
Sting came up to bat. Reid started off the inning with a base hit, followed by Kyle Daniels with a double and an RBI. Mia Jauregi got off a terrific bunt which propelled her to third base and brought in Kyle for a run. Annie Smith was at bat and a run away pitch made her take off for first, brought Mia in for a score and while Veronica Timpane was up at bat, Annie stole second and third. The inning continued until 7 runs had been scored.
In the bottom of the third inning the Hurricanes started to make a come back with three runs, but it was too late and the game ended with a nice win for Sting 12DA.
Sunday - Sting DA vs Phantom Steel Breeze Score 1-10
At 8:00 am the Sting DA met up with the Phantom Steel Breeze once again. The first inning was lead off by Molly Cohen with a walk after being hit by a ball. She quickly stole second. Kyle Daniels got off a base hit but the Steel Breeze replied with a double play ending the inning.
Despite the great pitching of Sasha Kramer, the strong hitting of the Steel Breeze kicked in once more and they scored 4 runs during the inning. Sasha made the final out of the inning by throwing to Kyle Daniels at first to get the batter out.
Sting 12DA’s defense showed strong improvement as Nora Killian as catcher caught a foul tip. Molly Greene made a terrific catch of a high fly ball to left field. Katy Robinson at short-stop kept two batters from getting to first.
Our run was made by Nora Killian who walked to first, and got to second with a sacrifice bunt by Boothe Carlson and then to third and home on some errors by the other team.
It was a challenging tournament but a very fun time. The girls all played great and practicing this week for their next tournament in Napa.
