Sting 12-DA: Napa Tournament: June 16-17, 2007

Sting DA vs Napa Road Runners White Score: 4-11
The first inning of the game started with Sting on defense. The Road Runners got off three quick runs including the only home run of the day which brought in two runers. But Sasha Kramer stopped the action pretty fast with two consectutive strike outs.
Sting returned with three runs with quick base running capitalizing on a couple of RoadRunners pitiching errors. The RoadRunners came back up but were held by strong defense by Sting who stopped all hits in the infields and Sasha kept up her strike pitching.
The Roadrunners took over the game with a strong defensive inning leaving Sting scoreless and followed with a successful run at plate which resulted in 7 runs being scored. In the final inning Sting fought back on a sacrifice hit by Mia Jauregi to bring in Annie Smith.
Millbrae Mischief vs Sting 12DA
Sting was up for the first inning, Molly Cohen connected for a base hit, but strong pitching resulted in two attempted bunts being thrown out leaving her stranded at first.
Sting kept the Mischeif to a minimum in the bottom of the first. The first batter was taken care of at first base, the next was finished off with a pop-off hit caught by Reid Schinder, the third made it to first but Sasha Cohen struck out the next batter to end it all.
In the third inning Mischeif scored two runs, but an amazing double play by Kyle Daniels helped to stop the play as she caught a fly ball and then turned and tagged a player out at first.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Mischeif kicked in and kept it up. The highlight of the inning was a perfect catch by Mia Jauregi in center field for an important out of the inning. Sting fought hard and made great defensive plays.
Napa RoadRunners Blue vs. Sting 12DA 10-0
While the team may have lost the game, it was game well played for Sting. Annie Smith did a great turn at pitching. Mia Jauregi hit a fantasitc ball in the first (it was caught in the infield). Katy Robinson too care of a pop ball in the second, Sasha Kramer caught a hard line drive. The tream looked good, they were playing strong.
The day ended with the girls in good spirits, the coaches and parents happy to see the improvements in every game played and ready for another day of tournament play on Sunday.
Sting 12DA vs San Anselmo Storm Score 11-7
In Sunday’s first game, Sting proved its potential as it stayed well in front of San Anselmo Storm over the course of the 4 inning game and brought home an 11-7 victory.
Sasha Kramer had an excellent pitching game, throwing a number of strike outs as well as forcing short infield hits that were well-fielded by her teammates. While some runs were scored, the defensive plays by Sting were notable. In the second inning, with bases loaded and no outs, Katy Robinson threw out two players at home plate and Reid Schnider followed by fielding a hard hit past the pitcher’s mound and throwing the batter out at first.
In the third inning, no runs were scored. A well-fielded ball by Katy and throw to Kyle Daniels, who was able to stretch way off the bag, was a memorable moment.
Sting players made good solid hits. The first inning set the stage for those to follow. After a couple of walks, a few sacrifice infield hits, the players began to score runs. The biggest hit of the inning was by Sasha Kramer who hit a beautiful double to left field. In the second inning, Veronica Timpane, Kyle Daniels, and Annie Smith all made fine hits and each crossed home plate to score.
In the third inning, Molly Cohen hit a beautiful ball to center field and Annie hit one up the third base line and 2 runs came in. In the fourth and final inning, Mia Jauregi, Sasha, Molly Greene, and Molly Cohen all got on base. Katy took second base on a well-hit ball to left field. The final run of the game was made by Molly Green whose hussling all the way through proved successful as she stole home plate.
The second game against Cupertino Inferno was a shut out game but Sting played well defensively, nonetheless. Annie and Sasha, the Sting pitchers, did a consistently good job. Molly Green made a nice catch in center field in the second inning.
The third inning was a particularly strong inning with Sasha making 3 quick outs with the help of catcher Nora Killian. Unfortunately our hitting was less successful this game, while Cupertino’s was strong and consistent.
All in all, it was a great day for Sting-12DA and the team completed the tournament with an important win under their belt.
